As we delve into the second semester and begin to think about where you’ll be working next summer, YWiB UBC is thrilled to present you with our famed Internship Program! Take a look at the description and the promotional video! Who We Are The Internship Program provides current students with the opportunity to start exploring their possible career path, build their network, develop industry contacts, and gain practical skills and hands-on training. With a focus on hand-selected small to mid-sized local businesses, interns gain valuable experience working in the industry of their choice. The interns are also given the opportunity to develop a variety of technical and soft skills before entering their placements through a workshop series.
What We Do The Program consists of three phases: recruitment, preparation and placement. Over the course of February – April, YWiB UBC recruits potential interns by holding information sessions, setting up promotion booths around campus, and through various social media and marketing tactics. Thereafter, we conduct one-on-one interviews with each applicant and by April, the final group of successful interns is chosen.
Next comes the preparation phase, where the interns are required to participate in a workshop series during the first week of May. The workshop series is created to help interns build various skills that will strengthen their performance in their new employments. Topics covered in past workshops have included: communication skills, public speaking, website and blogging basics, HTML, presentation tools, marketing essentials, personal branding and resume and cover letter building.
Following recruitment and preparation, each program member is given an internship placement in the industry of their choice. Some of the most recent companies of employment have included: Vitamin Daily, Popchips, CRAVE Vancouver, the Association of Women in Finance, mydealbag, Nuuly, Corporate Champions, and West Park.
