[Member Spotlight] Week 1 - Beckie, Jenny, Vicky

Welcome to week 1 of YWiB's new Member Spotlight Series! Having put on so many events and socials, the YWiB team would now like to take the opportunity to put a face to our members, get to know a little bit more about them, and why they chose YWiB!

Throughout the next two months, a weekly Saturday blog post will be published featuring our very own YWiB members who hail from across all years and faculties. At the end of each blog post there will be a "weekly question" prompt for readers to consider.

Thank you everyone for your continuous support of YWiB and without further ado, here are our lovely members!

Beckie Che

As a fifth year Faculty of Arts student, Beckie saw the potential in YWiB and how different it was from other business clubs given its inclusive community and various opportunities. A big moment in her life was when she took an event that had been cancelled twice before for not selling enough tickets to getting them sold out in two weeks!

Who in YWiB would you like to give a special shout-out to? Yuge – I feel that we are very similar and can relate to each other, but at the same time have different backgrounds and can share lots of different perspectives with one another.

Fun fact? I have Portugese citizenship!

Describe yourself in one word. Lively

Jenny Zheng

Jenny is a fourth year Commerce student who knows that success is a long term journey and that it’s better to fail than to regret. She looked to YWiB to build genuine connections and make new friends and would describe YWiB as “collective”, being pleasantly surprised by how professional and knowledgeable our executives are (thank you!).

If you could be any age for a week, what age would you be? Why? 24, because I would have graduated from law school and be practising law by then.

An item on your bucket list? Travel to more natural places like the woods and spend time there / getting away from the city

What’s your motto? "Success is a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired."

Vicky Hu

A bright young first year Commerce student, Vicky is an apt listener who can be caught with a cheerful smile when spotted on campus. She joined YWiB looking for a group of women who would be open and understanding, willing to share what it is they’ve learned throughout their years, and that’s exactly what she got!

Who in YWiB would you like to give a special shout-out to? Melissa! She tells me everything she knows, not afraid to share anything, instead of people who filter out details. A lot of the time, people don't pick up on the fact that I sense they are filtering information. Just being able to talk to someone open minded who will elaborate on my areas of interest is great.

Fun fact? One time, I auctioned off one of my paintings for $750 at a school auction!

Describe yourself in one word. Optimistic
