[Member Spotlight] Week 2 - Nika, Anna, Emily

Welcome back to week 2 of our Member Spotlight Series! This week we bring to you three lovely ladies who are known amongst their peers to be full of energy and never without smiles, Nika, Anna, and Emily!

Nika
Nika

Nika Moeni

As a first year Arts student, Nika is a bundle of both joy and energy! She has decided to take charge of her university career right off the bat by becoming an active member of her community. She loves how YWiB aims to form personal connections with its members, differentiating itself from other business clubs, and finds that aspect to be particularly important for young women to building their network. How she describes YWiB? Exciting!

If you could be any age for a week (assuming you'd turn back at the end), what age would you be? Why? 28. I would be at a point where I am qualified to enter the workforce. To me it is a stage where you're moving from a young adult to a real adult. I'd like to do this to get adult experience to prepare myself for when I actually turn 28.

An item on your bucket list? Help a girl escape poverty.

What's your motto? Never settle. I think in life you should always be striving for better and always move forward. If you are in a position where you think you can be doing better, you should push yourself.

Anna Xiao

Only a first year Commerce student, Anna is already a super proactive individual who puts a lot of effort into seeking out opportunities that resonate with her passions and interests. She wants to give a shout-out to Lyndan, our VP Events, for being such a friendly and supportive buddy, showing her just how much YWiB cares about their members on a personal level. Anna has been interested in women empowerment ever since high school and looks forward to returning as a member to YWiB next year!

What's one thing people don't know about you? I've taken a gap year from school and I stayed with my high school friends while travelling around Beijing. I also have super studying skills because I've learned to study for exams like the TOEFL and SATs on my own :)

Proudest moment of your life? Receiving my UBC offer!

Describe yourself in one word. Challenge-seeker.

Emily Lee

Emily is a second year Arts student who took the long way around trying to find out what she's passionate about, and has now finally set her sights on the Masters of Management program at UBC. After joining, she was surprised by how welcoming YWiB is and the level of comfort she feels with us, having expected us to be strict and uptight (because please, we're a business club, right?). She looks forward to meeting new people and connecting with like-minded people in general at future YWiB events.

If you could be any age for a week, what age would you be? Why? 30, because I aspire to have my life together by that age. It's the most exciting time of your life because you're entering a stage where you've hopefully reached most of your goals. The peak age.

An item on your bucket list? Go to Fiji! I really want to visit the place my parents grew up in and see why my grandma decided to move there to start her family.

What's your motto? Teamwork makes dreamwork.
