We've hit week 4 of our Member Spotlight Series, which is also the one month mark! It's truly been amazing learning about all the amazing members we have in our club. This week we bring to you Cherry, Joanna, and Michelle, three first-year Sauder students who, despite being overwhelmed by all the things university has to offer, have found one thing in common: YWiB.
Cherry is a first year Commerce student who has come to define YWiB with one word: family. She loves how welcoming and warm the club is and was surprised to have seen male members (yes, despite our name, we don't discriminate!) at some events! Eager for both knowledge and experience, Cherry looks forward to be able to participate in our BLOSSOM mentorship program next year.
If you could be any age for a week (assuming you'd turn back at the end), what age would you be? Why? I would want to be 2 years old because babies are always happy and all they need to do everyday is eat, sleep, play. Their world is not complicated and they have a simple life.
An item on your bucket list? I want to take part in dance competitions.
What's your motto? Where there is a will, there is a way. Though I know school is super important, but I still want to dance. It is hard to find a balance between dance and school, but I don't want to give up dancing. I believe my will will show me a way to keep going.
As a first year Commerce student, Joanna is slowly wading her way and gradually becoming more comfortable with the university lifestyle. Don't let this quiet girl fool you though! She has won district championships in badminton during her last two years in high school! Joanna has enjoyed her YWiB stay thus far and looks forward to being more active within our community once internship and director positions become available. Good luck Joanna!
If you could be any age for a week (assuming you'd turn back at the end), what age would you be? Why? Elementary age because that's when you're most carefree. You don't have to worry about anything and it's super chill.
An item on your bucket list? Skydiving
What's your motto? Never actually thought about this. Typical Sauder motto? Work hard play hard (Y)
Michelle is a first year Commerce student who embodies her faculty's "Work hard, play hard" model well, seeing as how she is already actively involved in her community serving as both VP Communications and the Awards Committee Chair for her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi - Beta Kappa Chapter. She applied to UBC wanting to gain the skills to empower women and well, YWiB seemed like a great place to start!
What's one thing people don't know about you? I'm really weird once you talk more with me. When they first meet me, they all think I'm really sweet, but then we get more comfortable and....:)
Proudest moment of your life? After finishing my last IB exam in May...Liberation!
Describe yourself in one word. Passionate. I'm very value-driven, if I don't believe in something, then I wouldn't be able to bring myself to do it.
