Earlier this month, on October 16th we were happy to hold the Meet and Greet event for our new BLOSSOM Mentorship program, a brand new mentorship program launched by YWiB UBC this year! It was so exciting to see a number of enthusiastic women that came together to share, learn, and get to know each other ― to be more than your typical “connection” in the business world. With the mentees, we kicked off introductions with a mock networking session- speed dating style! The friendly, interactive atmosphere our mentees set before their mentors even arrived was fantastic!
After a short break and the arrival of the mentors, mentees were given the task of finding their mentors with only a piece of paper containing clues regarding their mentor’s interest, field of expertise, etc. As mentees maneuvered around, going from mentor to mentor, it was great to see how excited mentees were to meet and talk to each mentor, even if it wasn’t their own!
Our third act of the night (pun intended!) was a delightfully challenging game of Charades! Despite the difficulty of some words/phrases (flipping a pancake, what?), our group of women continue to impress and deciphered each performance in no time flat!
Following a great night of laughter and fun, mentors and mentees went off and discussed amongst themselves, sharing with each other their personal values, aspirations, and what they hope to achieve with BLOSSOM. The night ended with a run-down of how the program works from here on out and the announcement the Selfie Photo Contest, where each mentor-mentee pair can participate for a chance to win in either the Quantity or Most Unique Selfie category. We could practically see everyone’s hands itching to pull out their smart phones and start snapping photos right away! The infectious enthusiasm of all the women made the night such a delight. We are so happy to see this amazing turnout of eager and passionate women!
Once again, a huge thank-you to all mentors and mentees who came out to this event! It was a pleasure meeting you all and we are so thankful for all the positive comments and feedbacks received. Special shout out to our very own Joanna and Melissa for putting this program and event together! Stay tuned for more later on in the year to see the fruits of our BLOSSOM Mentorship Program!
