How To Be A Master Networker
/Networking is a powerful way to create relationships, build confidence, make connections and open opportunities. Of course, here at YWiB, we believe in the power of networking and our goal is to bring more opportunities to every woman in business in Toronto.
Here are a few Networking Tips & Tricks to get you started:
Research. Do a bit of research to see who will be at the event so you can plan out some conversations with specific people and already have an understanding of their backgrounds.
Practice. Have your pitch ready and practiced before going to the event so you can speak with ease and confidence.
Ask Questions. Show a genuine interest and curiosity about everyone you meet.
Be Confident. Confidence is key for meeting new people and making a strong impression. Remember that you are attending the event for a reason - you have something to contribute!
Come prepared. Bring your business cards to hand out to everyone you meet to make continuing the conversation after the event much easier. Bring a pen to write notes about each person so you don’t forget!
Looking for ways to practice this in real life in Toronto this summer?
Amelia is the perfect place to practice your networking skills in a relaxed and casual setting. Amelia is an exclusive community where women in tech, venture, and business gather in real life to share stories, knowledge, and connections.
By simply creating a profile and undergoing a 24-hour review period, you will gain access to weekly, community initiated socials that allow you to connect with like-minded women over food at restaurants and cafés.
However, these socials aren't your typical networking events. To combat the impersonal nature of large networking events, Amelia facilitates the initiation of smaller, 4-8 women socials where it is easier to make authentic, genuine connections.
By attending an Amelia social, you will have inspiring conversations that will leave you feeling energized instead of exhausted. You will also expand your professional and social circles to beyond your co-workers and friends from college. The exposure you get through Amelia will bring you countless opportunities to further your personal brand and career.
We interviewed Irene Wu from Amelia to get a better understanding of the organization. Here is our Q&A with her.

Amelia: From recent graduates to VPs with 15 years of industry experiences, Amelia is a thriving hub welcoming ambitious women of all backgrounds. Some of the common professions on Amelia include: start-up founders, software engineers, product managers, data scientists, consultants, investment bankers, and accountants.
YWiB: Who can host an event on Amelia?
Amelia: All members can host an event on Amelia. We want Amelia to be a platform where everyone has the opportunity to initiate conversations and lead discussions.
