How to (successfully) survive a stressful week

Written by Taylor Anhorn

If you’re like me and accidentally crowd your schedule with events, meetings, classes, and midterms, have no fear. I’m here to show you how to survive your hectic week.

Morning routine

To kickstart your week off right, create a morning routine specific to you. Whether it’s doing morning yoga, doing your hair and makeup, or cooking a delicious breakfast, having a routine can help keep you on track for the rest of the day. Even though I spend my days at home, I like to do my hair and makeup, and put on an outfit as if I was spending the day at university. This helps motivate me and prevents me from spending all day watching Netflix.

Write it down

When I have a busy few days, I like to grab my weekly planner and write out everything I have to do for each day. That way, all my meetings and deadlines are laid out in front of me and I can see exactly what each day entails. I recommend a large planner that has both a monthly calendar and weekly spreads. This way, no matter how busy your week is, you can fit every detail into your planner. Check this one out from Walmart.

Prioritize

After writing out the details of my work week, I go through and find what research needs to be done before meetings/deadlines, so that I can prioritize my time wisely. By doing this extra step, I am able to ration my time better and can efficiently work through each task.

Take breaks

An important part of staying sane during a stressful week is to take breaks. Allow yourself to relax for a short moment in between studying sessions. I like to stand up and stretch as well as grab a coffee or snack to give myself a bit of a breather before hitting the books again.

Take care of yourself

Nothing is worse than burning out while trying to survive a busy week. To avoid this, remember to take care of yourself. Work hard during the day and take the evening to relax and enjoy your own company, whether it’s taking a bubble bath or eating popcorn and watching Netflix. Do whatever you think you need in that moment.
