YWiB Vancouver New Year’s Resolutions 2021 Kick Off
/From risky New Year’s eve parties, to a riveting night spent on the couch with popcorn and the thing many of us are starting to consider part of our ‘bubble’, our faithful friend, Netflix. That said, we still have one annual tradition we can indulge in, the making of New Year’s Resolutions! You know, those twelve month commitments we make to ourselves at the beginning of the year, only to find ourselves sticking to them for (if we’re lucky) a few weeks?
Although they too may look a little different in 2021, the intent of the resolution setting exercise is consistent year after year. We try to maximize the chances of having a successful year by setting meaningful and measurable goals for the coming 12 months. This conscious introspection allows us to take personal ownership of where we want to spend our energy and allows us to start the new year with a sense of focus.
Take the first step with the YWiB Vancouver team and check out some of our resolutions for 2021 below. Maybe they will help you with some ideas to create your own resolutions or at minimum motivate you to reflect on what is really important to you this year!
And for those that are looking for a fun alternative to New Year’s resolutions, we have a few ideas for you too (scroll to the bottom!)!
1. Build a Better Budget
For context, I am the type of person that would rather not look at my bank balance and instead forge ahead indulging in retail therapy in complete ignorant bliss.
As a result, this resolution is one that I am really hoping will stick around for the long haul! If you can relate and want to start 2021 with a solid financial foundation, learn the budgeting basics to get you started by checking out our budgeting blog post here!
2. Cook One Thing New Each Week
Every time a new year rolls around it seems like one of the most common things you will find on anyone’s resolution list is, to lose weight and/or eat healthier. This year I am going to put my cooking skills to the test and see if I can kill two birds with one stone. I’m committing to cooking healthy meals at home in the hopes it will support my long term fitness goals!
3. Play More!!
Like many others, with the onset of COVID-19 last spring, I was temporarily laid off from work and had to find new ways to fill my time. Surprisingly, this included finding new ways to “play” as an adult. We invested endless hours in puzzles, board games and card games to reignite the nostalgia of play from our younger years.
Interested? I suggest checking out Amazon for some of their most popular games to get started!
4. Be Kinder to Yourself
One of the more underrated COVID-19 outcomes that I believe 2020 has taught us, is to appreciate our true friends, the ones that actually care about us, and genuinely want the best for us. Further, the COVID-19 environment has reinforced the fact that we cannot control how others treat us, only how we respond to that treatment.
Moving into 2021, one of my new year’s resolutions (that has not made the list in prior years) is simply being kinder to myself. As the longest relationship, I will ever have, being kinder means making more of an effort to trust, respect and believe in myself….
5. Create a Positive Attitude
I tend to believe in the sentiment, “prepare for the worst and hope for the best”, in all situations. Unfortunately, this sentiment doesn’t always foster the most positive inner dialogue and always has an impact on how I feel about the outcome.
Going into 2021, I will be greeting the new year with the commitment to staying positive and approaching things with an open mind…wish me luck!
6. It’s The Journey
2020 started us off on an unusual journey, but as we go into 2021 the notion of finding balance in both our personal and professional life is something that we can all try and find or carry over to the new year. In this process of finding and adjusting to our new routines, having compassion for yourself is so, so important. By the end of 2021 let us have found our balance and our compassion for ourselves and one another
A new year is like a fresh start. And the transition from 2020 to 20201 could not come soon enough! Use our ideas above as your starting point to curate your own resolutions to make this year the best one yet.
